An Agile Developer and Team Lead

small logo

The Team is the Game! Go Team!

Over the last 4 years I have grown to appreciate what a good team can do when using a good development methodology. I have seen the teams that I have been working with create incredible products and conquer difficult technical challenges and have fun doing it.

My Simdesk experience

I lead the development team and contribute to the team in the development of Simdesk Organizer. We use the Scum methodology to manage the project. Because of the team’s success in meeting goals while using Scrum, agile development methodologies are used company wide.

What was really exciting was to see the Scrum methodology adopted company wide at Simdesk. Because of the success of our team I was able to train and mentor other team leads, managers and corporate executives to use Scrum. This lead to increased productivity and better communication among the teams, support, product managers and upper management. Goals are well defined and consistently meet.

My role is to keep the team focused on project priorities and work with the product owner to make sure we have software products the meet requirements..As a team we delivered the Simdesk Organizer 3.0 product in 9 months. The Organizer product is built from the Mozilla Thunderbird code base. Starting with technologies such as XPCOM, XUL, CSS, XBL, DOM, RDF JavaScript, Mozilla framework, which none of us had any expertise in, we were able to deploy a new Personal Information Manager that exceeded company expectations. To view this product, you can created account on www.simhouston.com (it is free and ignore the part of needing a library card) and install the Simdesk Organizer product.
